VII - The Chariot

The Constellation Tarot deck - Learn tarot card meanings of the Chariot

Keywords: willpower, determination, self mastery

The Constellation Tarot card deck shows the Chariot as the constellation of Auriga, the charioteer. This was said to be the legendary King Erichtonius of ancient Greece. Born half-human, half-snake, his lack of mobility led him to invent a chariot drawn by four horses. His ⁣invention gave him the freedom of movement, and greatly benefited the people of Athens in agriculture and transport.

The Chariot Tarot card meaning is that of willpower, determination and self-confidence. It shows someone who has mastered himself and is now able to effectively control his circumstances. He has a clear vision and self awareness, and is able to direct his life according to his will. This does not mean controlling or manipulating others, but that by being extremely aware of his thoughts, emotions and actions, he becomes a leader of his life.

Someone who has not yet become a Charioteer will feel helpless, lazy, unmotivated, and will see themselves at the mercy of others around them. They do not take responsibility for their lives, instead they give that responsibility away to someone or something else, blaming others for their unfortunate circumstances, constantly hurt feelings, and seeing no need for self reflection or change.

The legend of King Erichtonius shows that no matter what circumstances you are thrown into, you can find a way to overcome them that will benefit not only you but many others around you. It takes determination, inner strength, self awareness, and the absolute refusal to give up. ⁣
